SHAILAPUTRI – Navratri is considered an important sacred festival where people worship Goddess Durga, and her various forms are the epitomes of power and have the ability to bring in anything desired. In India, it is a big religious festivity for nine propitious days. The celebration goes on for these favorable days with different rituals and customs in distinct parts.
Navaratri’s first day is associated with Shailaputri literally means the daughter of the mountain. Variously known as Sati Bhavani, Parvati or Hemavati, the daughter of Himavat – the king of the Himalayas.
Shailputri is also known as Bhavani, Parvati, or Hemavati and has a beautiful, earthly essence among all. In her previous birth, Shailputri was known as Sati and was the wife of Lord Shiva. In her second reincarnation, she took birth as the daughter of Lord Himalaya and was thus named Shailputri, the daughter of mountains. She has a golden complexion on her forehead with a crescent. She also holds a trident in her right hand & a lotus flower in the other. Shailputri also sits on her bull, named Nandi.
